FAQs
What sort of people do you work with?
Our financial planning services will suit people who:
- Want their adviser to be easily accessible
- Want to work with a firm that is not owned by a bank, industry fund or financial institution
- Appreciate simple and clear advice
- Are looking for comprehensive financial advice
- Have previously engaged a financial planner but have been disappointed by unnecessary complexity and/or a lack of service
- Know that getting the right advice is critical, but are simply looking for the right team to partner with.
We keep it simple.
Life’s complex enough without having to worry about your finances; we believe you should enjoy your wealth – not lose sleep over it.
We’re also an approved Professional Practice with the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA).
FPA Professional Practices demonstrate the highest professional, academic and ethical standards through adherence to the FPA Code of Professional Practice. Being a FPA Professional Practice sets Muirfield apart as a leader and role model for financial planning within the community.
Muirfield was one of the first practices in Australia to qualify for Professional Practice status demonstrating our commitment to financial planning excellence.
The first step when seeking advice is for you to provide some basic details and let us know the type of advice you’re seeking. We will then give you a call to discuss your needs in more detail so we can determine how we can help and which advice specialist might be the best fit for your needs.
We can help you best when we know where you are now and importantly where you would like to be in the years ahead.
If we both agree it makes sense we can book an in-person meeting to progress the conversation.
We want to hear what it is you’re looking to achieve and we generally use a questionnaire to get a picture of your personal and financial situation. It helps form the basis for any advice we might provide.
After that, we will typically give you a heads up on the strategies that might be appropriate for you, so you can make an informed decision about what to do next.
If our advice is in keeping with what you were looking for, and you think we’d be a good fit, then we can arrange a second appointment or the appropriate next steps.
Our experience tells us advice is never one-size-fits-all. It is important we tailor our advice and service delivery to meet your needs, so you get value from the engagement.
All advice we offer is paid for as a 'fee-for-service'. The fee may depend on the advice type (one-off or ongoing), the size and type of any investments you might engage us to manage, and the complexity of the advice provided. Therefore, depending on your needs, different costs can apply for delivery of our advice and related services.
It is important to note, an initial meeting cost may apply in certain circumstances. We will always let you know what any costs are before booking a meeting or progressing the advice discussions.
If it’s appropriate, we’ll let you know at our initial appointment what the ‘next steps’ are so you know what to expect.
Generally, if you become an ongoing client we would agree what services we’re to provide and document this in a detailed financial plan (called a Statement of Advice). The plan would confirm our recommendations, the agreed strategy, any investment advice, and associated costs.
Over time, changes will warrant a review of your circumstances and investments and we encourage you to call if you have financial queries.
Your financial planner will always be your first point of contact, with the rest of the Muirfield team available to provide support and service as required.
We like to make sure you can always speak with someone. We believe it’s one of our strengths.
We like to review our client’s situations at least once every year. We are always happy to meet with you more or less frequently, depending on your preference and comfort levels.
It is also important that you keep us up to date with your situation particularly if things change.
As often or as little as you like.
Ongoing access to your Adviser and staff of Muirfield and our regular reviews of investments are intended to keep you informed of financial planning matters that may impact your situation.
We encourage you to call if you have financial queries and book review meetings with your Adviser as often as you would prefer.
No. We’re not tied to any bank, financial institution, or investment product provider.
We will only suggest what we believe is appropriate for you and recommend investments from a range of providers.
All of our Advisers are qualified professionals authorised to provide financial advice.
What’s unique about Muirfield is that all of our Advisers are either Certified Financial Planners® or studying to attain this accreditation.
The Certified Financial Planner® (CFP) accreditation is the highest level of certification that a financial planner in Australia can achieve. CFP professionals abide by the standards laid out by the FPA Code of Professional Practice and continually demonstrate their commitment to excellence in financial planning by meeting competency, ethics, and practice standards.
It’s not a one-size-fits-all approach.
We actively monitor and review client portfolios. Typically, we find that client’s value this because it provides:
- Access to Muirfield’s expertise in portfolio management, research and investment selection;
- Peace of mind knowing that your investments are managed and suitable for your situation
- Ease of management through timely and efficient investment implementation and reporting;
- A pro-active and ongoing advice relationship.
Our advisers specialise in Retirement planning, Superannuation, Centrelink, Aged Care, Investments, and Redundancy.
We can talk to you about Estate Planning and Taxation, but usually this will need to be supported by a Solicitor or Accountant.
The business was established by Hayden Torney and he is now proudly joined in partnership with his two sons, Andrew and Matt, and fellow adviser Melinda Planken.
After more than 30 years serving clients we are fortunate enough to be financially stable, and privately owned. We intend to keep it this way.
